The Chainsmokers achieved mainstream success with their breakthrough song “#Selfie” in 2014. The group is a duo made up of producer/DJ combo Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. They released an EP near the end of 2015, but it wasn’t until 2017 when their first album Memories…Do Not Open was released. Even though The Chainsmokers have released full length projects, their normal schedule of music releases is more unorthodox. The Chainsmokers are most well known for releasing singles randomly.
In an interview conducted by Interview Magazine, The Chainsmokers discussed working with Halsey, Andrew Taggart’s singing career, and more.
“That’s the kind of artists we like to work with,” said Alex Pall in regards to Halsey, the featured singer on the song “Closer.” “She has a very strong voice,” Pall confirmed. Pall went on to call Halsey incredible; Alex Pall said that over the last year, Halsey was one of the singers they were looking most forward to working with.
Andrew Taggart wrote “Closer,” but for the first time ever, Andrew Taggart stepped up to the microphone. The Chainsmokers, even though they haven’t previously sang on their own songs, write their own vocals. They usually have a different singer perform the vocals, but all of the songs from The Chainsmokers are written from personal events.
The Chainsmokers’ previous hits are “#Selfie,” “Roses,” and a handful more. The Chainsmokers have so many hit songs under their resume, it seems as though the group has been producing music for a decade. It is hard to believe The Chainsmokers have only been an active group for less than 5 years.
Now that Andrew Taggart is also singing and not just producing, The Chainsmokers have been forced to redesign their live shows. The Chainsmokers have circulated the idea of mixing video packages into their show, but the biggest change to the live show is when Andrew Taggart steps behind the microphone. Taggart stepping out from behind the production table has resulted in a dynamic change to the show.
